Electricity bill reduction

We all want to save on our electricity bill. Solar PV can be one of the easiest and most impactful
ways of getting the results you are looking for. But where to start? There are more than 500 SEAI
registered installers in Ireland. Which one to choose? Can I trust them to advise me objectively? Will
I get the right system?

We provide an independent service for you to access your solar PV potential and to give you a
better understanding of the benefits and limitations of a solar PV installation. Solar PV installation
can bring huge savings for some people and almost none for others. We are not selling you an
installation, but will tell you what your options are. We do not install solar PV systems, but help you
to find and select a suitable certified installer. We are here to help you to get the most suitable solar
PV system for you.

Having us to advise you will take away the risk of getting a system that is not suitable for your needs
or simply paying too much.

When designing your solar PV system, we look first at your electricity usage, what you are using it for
and at what time of the day. Projecting future electricity usage, e.g., expansion or reduction of the
number of people living in the house, is an important consideration, when planning for a solar PV
system that should last at least 20 years. This might also include additional equipment: EV car, hot
water heaters, heat pump, etc. An in-depth analysis can also reveal potential energy savings.

Energy independence

At one end of the scale, adding batteries to your solar PV system can give you some electricity back-
up power in case of a grid outage. Hybrid inverters will give you this option. You have a power socket
where you can plug in devices e.g., a phone charger, lights, internet router, etc. The available energy
is usually between 5 and 10kWh.

At the other end of this scale, you can have an off-grid system which operates fully independently of
the grid and will provide all the electricity needs for your household. It can use the grid, as a back-up,
where this is an option, and/or it can use a generator.

We can design these systems for you – and everything in between!

Reducing CO2 emissions

Depending on a lot of factors, solar PV panels become “carbon neutral” after about 1 to 3 years of their installation. Having paid back this initial embodied energy cost, they will produce carbon free clean energy for the next 20-30 years.

It is a similar scenario for the batteries, although this is harder to gauge. The additional benefit of batteries is that they help stabilise the grid. The most common type of battery for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) battery, which cycles more than 6000 times and has a useful life of over 20 years.
